Jonalee P Sarmiento
Occupational Therapist
” I’m Jonalee, but families and children like to call me Alee. Over my years as an occupational therapist, I’ve had the incredible privilege of joining children and their families on their unique journeys towards growth, independence, and building confidence.
Outside of therapy sessions, I enjoy deepening my knowledge through reading and research, to provide the best possible care for every child I work with. And because I believe empowering families is key, I take time translating what I learn into practical, easy-to-understand resources for parents and caregivers. After all, you are your child’s greatest ally! “

My experience has allowed me to support children with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Developmental Delays (DD), and learning differences, among others. I’ve worked with little ones just beginning to explore the world, as well as older children and teens navigating the demands of school and social life.
Some of the more common struggles I help with include:
- Difficulty staying focused and following instructions that can impact participation in school
- Fine motor skill challenges affecting the use of tools for feeding (like utensils) and for school (such as pencils and scissors)
- Managing big emotions, tantrums, and meltdowns affecting playing with and making friends or spending quality time with the family
- Sensory processing difficulties that often impact going out with the family, getting a haircut, and at times even eating
- Challenges with routine changes or trying new things which could affect joining friends and family for fun activities or exploring new hobbies or places
I’ve had the opportunity to work in therapy centres, schools, and home settings, and no matter the environment, I believe every child has the potential to thrive when they feel seen, supported, and safe. I always take the time to build trust and truly understand what makes each child tick: what brings them joy, what might be frustrating, and how we can gently guide them towards greater independence.
