Jonalee P Sarmiento
Occupational Therapist
” I’m Jonalee, but families and children like to call me Alee. Over my years as an occupational therapist, I’ve had the incredible privilege of joining children and their families on their unique journeys towards growth, independence, and building confidence.
Outside of therapy sessions, I enjoy deepening my knowledge through reading and research, to provide the best possible care for every child I work with. And because I believe empowering families is key, I take time translating what I learn into practical, easy-to-understand resources for parents and caregivers. After all, you are your child’s greatest ally! “

Jonalee holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council (C-Registration). She has supported children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, developmental delays, and learning differences, from toddlers exploring their first steps in independence to older children and teens navigating school and social life.
Some of the common challenges Jonalee helps with include:
• Staying focused and following instructions in school
• Developing fine motor skills for feeding, handwriting, and tool use
• Managing big emotions, tantrums, and meltdowns
• Sensory processing difficulties (haircuts, family outings, eating)
• Coping with changes in routines and trying new activities or places
Jonalee integrates a variety of approaches to support her clients’ needs. She has attended workshops such as Press Play: Use of Multimedia in OT and Becoming a Behavioural Detective with Kim Barthel. She is also certified in several safety and first-aid programs, including:
• Basic Life Support & AED (American Safety and Health Institute)
• “Stop the Bleed: Save a Life” (American College of Surgeons)
• Krav Maga Security Program Certificate
• Civilian First Care Provider (TECC International)
• Psychological First Aid Certification
• Emergency Oxygen Training
Her commitment to continuous learning ensures that her practice remains responsive and evidence-based.
Jonalee believes that every child has the potential to thrive when they feel truly seen and supported. She takes the time to build trust and understand what makes each child unique—what brings them joy, what frustrates them, and how to guide them gently toward greater confidence and independence. For her, therapy is not just about building skills, but about creating safe, empowering spaces for children and families to grow together.
Beyond the therapy room, Jonalee loves spending time reading, researching, and finding new ways to translate complex ideas into simple, family-friendly strategies. She is known for her warmth, patience, and gentle humour, which help children feel safe and understood. Families often share that her approachable personality makes therapy feel less like work and more like a journey they are taking together—with Alee as their steady guide.
