Lynette Khoo
Director of Educational Therapy, Educational Therapist
“Hi, I’m Lynette, Principal Educational Therapist and Director of Educational Therapy at KidzOTC.
As an educational therapist, my focus is not restricted to academic performance or simply ensuring worksheets are completed or exams are prepared for. My aim is to foster intrinsic motivation—where a student is genuinely interested in the subject, can relate to it, wants to engage, and will persevere.
I believe one size does not fit all. Every learner has a unique style, set of strengths, hopes, and dreams. My role is to understand these differences and harness a child’s potential, helping them progress not only in academics, but in confidence, resilience, and purpose.”
Lynette is both an Educational Therapist and a Guidance Counsellor, with extensive experience supporting students in local and international school systems, including:
- American High School Certification
- British A-Levels
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme
She works with children and adolescents aged 4–18, across both mainstream and special education settings.
Her experience spans:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- ADHD and executive functioning difficulties
- Developmental delays
- Speech and language disorders
- Learning disabilities, dyslexia, and dyspraxia
- Low self-esteem, task avoidance, and poor motivation
- Oppositional behaviours and bullying
- Emotional struggles such as anxiety and frustration
In addition, Lynette is a lecturer at the tertiary level, extending her expertise to train others in human development and mental health.
Lynette integrates evidence-based techniques from both educational therapy and counselling, including:
- Orton Gillingham Literacy & Numeracy
- Social Thinking & Organized Thinking
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Reality Therapy & Rational-Emotive Therapy
- Play Therapy
- CogMed Professional Training
- CO-OP (Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance)
- Interactive Metronome Certification
- Suicide Prevention & Student Protection Training
- Sensory Defensiveness & Working Memory Interventions
- Learning-related Vision Problems
- Stop Think Do! Problem-Solving Model
- Systemic Approach to Clinical Supervision
Her holistic toolkit allows her to adapt flexibly to each student’s needs—supporting not just academic development, but also emotional wellbeing and resilience.
“What inspires me is not just academic progress, but the growth of motivation, confidence, and resilience in each student. I believe children thrive when their uniqueness is acknowledged and their strengths are celebrated.
Over the years, I’ve seen students move from avoiding work to tackling challenges with confidence. I’ve watched quiet children begin to express their ideas and opinions freely, and anxious learners grow into individuals who take pride in their abilities. These changes remind me that progress is not only about grades—it’s about shaping a child’s sense of self.
By working collaboratively with families, educators, and therapists, I aim to ensure every student is supported both in learning and in life.”
Outside of her professional role, Lynette continues her own journey as a lifelong learner. She enjoys exploring the latest research in human development and mental health, always bringing practical insights back to her students and families.
She also values balance and creativity—whether it’s through reading, reflective writing, or time spent with loved ones. This reflective, compassionate spirit is what she carries into every session, reassuring families that their child is supported not only in academics, but in heart and mind.
