Success Stories
We have been coming here for Occupational Therapy sessions for our daughter as she needs help in strengthening her working memory and executive function. Alvin and Lesley have both been very patient, detailed and thorough in their follow through with her. She even looks forward to each occupational therapy session! The OTs keep us updated on each session and advise us on practical strategies that can help our child develop. We greatly appreciate their professional advice and the warm personal touch that they bring with it.
Hi, I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude through this letter which i'm sure you have received from many students! This placement has actually been very personally rewarding. 1 think I finally found a specialization which suits me. Since my years as an early childhood educator, I realize it's one thing to be able to play with kids. but entirely different ballgame. To be able to facilitate and guide the child to achieve various goals. I think I really like this placement which didn’t feel like a “job”. I know I have much to learn (too much) but you've been such a role model. I envy the endless ‘activity bank’. The wealth of knowledge that you’re so willing to share & impart with your students. I hope to someday be more qualified as an OT continue serving & guiding those who just needs a little bit of push to reach their goal.
Dear Alvin, Thank you for being such a nurturing mentor for the past 7 weeks! As you already know, I was really uncertain whether paeds was my cup of tea. But Thank you for making this 'deciding factor' such a pleasant one. I will definitely consider this line of work in the future " I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. & I will miss everyone here @ kidz! Let's stay in touch.
Hi Alvin, Enjoy our last treatment session plan! It's been a very big pleasure to have crossed paths with you & I’m deeply honoured to have you a my last mentor in OT school! You've been an inspiration to both of us and it’s such a pity to leave such a welcoming place. Your guidance has shaped my understanding of the importance of relationship in any sort of services, and this will go a long way in my strive for clinical excellence in future. this placement has prepared me for the challenges ahead 1 reiterated the importance of being a lifelong learner. as I embark on my own path Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours! Hope you like the book!
Ні Alvin! Hope you like the intervention plan" that we did. This is exactly how we felt during this 7 weeks! To be frank, you are the kind of CE Who looked slightly more serious when you're not working (with the clients). But, your energy and bright ideas, witty and creative ideas during the most difficult sessions always woah both of us! It's a privilege to have a CE (26 years experience & counting) like you for our final placement. I am sad to leave this placement but at the same time excited to start a new phase as well. Hope you continue to inspire more to join peads a bring in more disciples in kidz otc!
Hi Alvin, thanks for the past 7 weeks as our mentor in kids OTC. It’s been the best and most enjoyable clinical placement experience in OT school and your impact on our education has been huge! For both of us to reconsider coming back to this area of practice in future speaks greatly of your influence like one of the many great quotes in this book by the author, “all grown ups well once children, but only a few of them remembers it.” This place has reminded me of my role as a player and it’s such a nice feeling to revisit that while topping it up with the of a life coach for these clients. Thank you once again for providing us with the best opportunities! Wishing you, your family and kids, OTC, the best in everything.
Dear Alvin. Although I did not manage to sit in alot of your sessions at the start, im still glad to be paired towards the last 2 weeks! I see your passions love for the kids, and I do see why you chose paeds instead all of the other OT settings. It's definitely not easy doing juggling all you do and it’s truly remarkable to see what you and Lynette has built. Thank you for all your advices, recommendations and talks, I truly appreciate them lots -I've picked up and learnt lots of skills and knowledge from you and, thank you for being open, transparent and approachable. Truly something a student need in order to grow. May you continue to inspire other soon-to-be OTs & continue having this spark in you. All the best in all that you do. see you again It we ever cross paths! Kidz Potc has been a really good experience, thank you for having me. Lots of love.
Since starting sessions with Alvin at Kidz Occupational Therapy, my son, Josiah, has developed exponentially in his motor coordination, emotional regulation, and social skills. From being a child who had difficulties managing playground equipment, he has now become and avid sportsman, finding motivation achievement in sports. Through the sessions, Alvin has also developed in him a strong writing skills and a deep sense of self and social awareness which has been critical to support his transition into Primary school. Josiah used to struggle so much with managing his big feelings, and with interacting with others in a controlled manner. Now, he is able to articulate clearly how he feels, has strategies to regulate his emotions, is able to take perspective and is able to make friends well.
Being with Alvin for 3 years, Josiah has learnt that he can do hard things, and this resilient mindset has served him so well in all areas of his life. He frequently tells me he looks forward to sessions with Alvin, and I see that it has been his safe space and somewhere he feels he can develop skills and find his strengths. I am ever grateful too for the wise counsel and psychoeducation given to me as a parent, so that I am better able to support my son. Thank you so much Alvin and Kidz Occupational Therapy, you have made a difference in our lives!
When my oldest son was in P4, he was struggling in school and felt really dejected. He was working so hard but there was barely any progress. Alvin looked at his IQ test results and noted that working memory was below average. After some explanations, I went with his recommendation of trying out COGMED. 6 weeks of tears, meltdowns and plenty of encouragement later, it appeared that Uncle Alvin had unlocked his potential. Of course, not all therapies are this short, some take many months or even years.
When my youngest was in P3, I was getting calls from school about his behaviour, I decided that I would try a subsidized route. 5 appointments and 6 months later, we were none the wiser. I sent him to Alvin and within 20 minutes, he had figured it out and then sent me out there to get a proper diagnosis, he was able to get the help that he needed and is now making such significant improvements at school.
I have so many other wonderful stories working with Alvin, but I can’t tell all of them here. I have 3 children, all neurodivergent and Alvin has helped each of them at various stages of their struggles. I have known him for over 12 years and I will always choose to go to him.
He is up to date with his therapies, very knowledgeable, wise and most importantly an advocate for the child, he is not going to offer you something that won’t work, and you won’t be pressured either.
Working with Alvin over these years, he has shown me that our kids don’t have to settle for what they have been diagnosed with, and there are ways to help them thrive and even do better than neurotypical kids as long as we are willing to do the work and if we have enough time and resources.
